"As a part of the Festival of Grace, celebrating the 1964 completion and consecration of Grace Cathedral, Bishop James Pike invited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to visit and preach at Grace Cathedral. Dr. King accepted and the date was set; March 28th, the fourth Sunday of Lent. Crowds already surged around the Cathedral by early morning, and by 10:00 am the building was packed. Grace Cathedral had never before seen so many people."

When will we listen? When will we learn?
Stop the excluding of LGBT Christians/others at ALL levels of everyday life.
Stop the instigating of crimes of hate from the pulpit and/or from the politicians soapbox.
Stop the "selective Scriptural" demoralizing and abominating of Christians/others.
Be responsible and accountable for the demonizing and other deadly acts of abuse directed against YOUR brothers/sisters, extended family members, co-workers and friends.

But I wouldn't stop there. Strangely enough, I would turn to the Almighty, and say, "If you allow me to live just a few years in the second half of the twentieth century, I will be happy." Now that's a strange statement to make, because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land. Confusion all around. That's a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars. And I see God working in this period of the twentieth century in a way that men, in some strange way, are responding--something is happening in our world. The masses of people are rising up. And wherever they are assembled today, whether they are in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nairobi, Kenya: Accra, Ghana; New York City; Atlanta, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; or Memphis, Tennessee--the cry is always the same--"We want to be free."
And another reason that I'm happy to live in this period is that we have been forced to a point where we're going to have to grapple with the problems that men have been trying to grapple with through history, but the demands didn't force them to do it. Survival demands that we grapple with them. Men, for years now, have been talking about war and peace. But now, no longer can they just talk about it. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world; it's nonviolence or nonexistence. MLK Jr.
I understand that there are Christians among you who try to justify segregation on the basis of the Bible. They argue that the LGBT is inferior by nature.Oh my friends, this is blasphemy. This is against everything that the Christian religion stands for. I must say to you as I have said to so many Christians before, that in Christ "there is neither Jew nor Gentile, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female, for we are all one in Christ Jesus." Moreover, I must reiterate the words that I uttered on Mars Hill: "God that made the world and all things therein . . . hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth." (my apologies to ) MLK Jr.
Dear Fred,
I believe that until EVERY person starts taking responsibility for their PERSONAL character/sin, nobody is safe. There has been a trend to make it OK to voice prejudices and hate in the last 10 years...it's become OK to let that freedom to voice prejudices and loathing for fellow human beings become actions of aggression and arrogance...being irresponsible for ones own BAD BEHAVIOR or supporting, silently or loudly, violence, abuse, discrimination against others is vile behavior no matter how it's dressed up to seem like protecting FAMILY VALUES...the only thing that advocating for fear/hate protects and prevents is the CURE FOR IT! Remember, that our FAMILY VALUES must include the WORLD FAMILY and we must be responsible in ALL that we do (even if it seems scary to those who have never been off the ground in a airplane or had a ride in a car)...we ARE currently participating in slothful NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL behavior by not taking responsibility for our MISTAKES...bravado and bullshitting for $$$ won't change the great harm that has occured against the people of the World...I've yet to hear McCain say he is sorry for the atrosities committed/resulted by/from the lies of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld (Rove the most damaged/cowardly participant of them all)...I'm sorry to report that as long as GREED festers and drives the economic thinking of politicians on the run (mostly to keep covering their mistakes with yet more aggressiveness and threats) and WE ALLOW IT...we are accomplices to the CRIMES against humanity. Everyone of us is responsible for murder or death by disease when we turn our face away from REALITY when prefering to listen to the crap generated by reckless, and irresponsible leadership amongst us.
WE MUST OWN OUR mistakes, we MUST be responsible and accountable or we will die the death of the demoralized.
