ARCHBISHOP ROWAN WILLIAMS -- A DISTURBING LEGACY OF ´OMISSION´: ¨A church fit only for bigots and hypocrites¨

 

¨Now that Williams and his fellow bishops are so angry at the possibility of civil gay marriage they are talking of disestablishing the church, we should acknowledge that Williams has always been prepared to accommodate reactionary forces abroad to further reactionary ends at home.¨


¨I realised that beards and soft words do not a liberal make when the Archbishop of Canterbury toured the Sudan in 2006. His visit coincided with the first genocide of the 21st century: the massacres in Darfur. The forces of the Arab-supremacist government in Khartoum were fighting a war to the knife with black Africans that left hundreds of thousands dead. The slaughter might not have been happening as far as Rowan Williams was concerned. He was the regime's guest and refused to bear witness to the suffering or criticise its perpetrators.

I thought at the time that among the reasons why I could not believe in God was the shabbiness of his representatives on Earth. The archbishop's officials explained that he did not wish to be undiplomatic, but I did not wholly believe them either. Williams seemed just the type to believe that crimes against humanity were colour-coded. One should denounce atrocities committed by the west, of course, but stay silent when the criminals had black or brown skins for fear of being thought a cultural imperialist or neocolonialist.

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori: Overseas cross-border interventions ¨destroys pastoral relationships¨ and ¨destroys trust¨

Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury excluding actions reveal ¨lack of understanding¨

¨Asked whether Williams has adequately addressed the issue of cross-border interventions, Jefferts Schori said, "I don't think he understands how difficult and how painful and destructive it's been both in the church in Canada and for us in the U.S. ... when bishops come from overseas and say, 'Well, we'll take care of you, you don't have to pay attention to your bishop.'" Such actions "destroys pastoral relationships," noted Jefferts Schori. "It's like an affair in a marriage," she said. "It destroys trust." HERE

Ethically, Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury is a ¨disaster¨

¨It is time, now that Rowan Williams has acted to exclude, to take action. The Episcopal Church, as the most affected, can take the lead. After all, Fred Hiltz is waiting. First, TEC should emphasise the importance of its network of links with other Churches formally and informally. Secondly, it should remove itself from all these central bureaucratic bodies and at the same time to stop funding them, and divert the funds to the informal links (that are better targeted and more productive anyway). The action should be taken until the policy of Rowan Williams is ended and, better still, perhaps along with it, until he is gone.

Surely there are people who can go to Rowan Williams and say that, now, because of what he has done, Primates are in open disagreement directly with him, that his policy is over-reaching beyond his proper authority, and that he should step down before the Anglican Communion is wrecked under his worst of leadership. Worst, because he takes so long to speak, act and respond, and when he does respond it is selectively and for the weakest of reasons, giving the nod to human rights abuse support in African Anglicanism, and that it is really time that he went. Ethically he is a disaster, putting the imagined and desired institution first according to its most conserving potential perspective. He has divorced ecclesial Christianity from ethics; he has encouraged the superstition of purple and the most limited forms of biblical interpretation...¨ HERE

The Archbishop of Canterbury: Rowan Williams ¨Sees Glory in each others faces¨...Selectively that is!

I have just viewed Archbishop Rowan Williams delivering his video address to the collected schismatic Anglicans who are also the self-named ¨holy orthodox believers¨ of The Global South.HERE This exclusive conclave, is made up of a specifically ¨invited¨ hostile group of strivers from various Provinces of The Anglican Communion and are meeting in the City/Police State of Singapore/Asia this week (money is not a issue for these instruments of colussion who are often well funded by angry American puritans). This Global South group is a ¨restricted¨ membership fellowship made up of ¨religiouslike¨ folk who often share notions of demonizing, marginalizing, persecuting and EXCLUDING LGBT ANGLICANS and others at all levels of Church and Anglican Communionlife. They also often promote persecution and discrimination against LGBT Christians in everyday society on their home turf. Abusing fellow Anglicans/others in the name of a God whose SOUL/SOLE demand is they read their Scriptures SELECTIVELY and deny equality, justice, religious and other, to OUR worldwide loving religious extended families!

Dr. Williams offers them/us elaborately inclusive wordings such as ¨We see Glory in each others Faces¨ and offers them/us the hope of the ¨Renewed Gift of the Holy Spirit¨ through careful LISTENING and attentive, and prayerfilled fellowship at The Anglican Communion. Sounds right? Don´t be silly, ¨don´t do as I say, do as I do!¨

Dr. Williams clearly doesn´t see Glory in the face of Bishop V.Gene Robinson of New Hampshire nor in the Bishop-elect for the diocese of Los Angeles, Canon Mary Douglas Glasspool of Maryland. In fact Dr. Williams refused to invite Bishop Robinson to the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury to share his life spiritual journey and 30+ year experience as a Priest. No, Dr. Williams is a intolerant listener (Lambeth 1.10), and has no interest in viewing ALL FACES who hold GLORY within them. Apparently it´s not essential for Dr. Williams to view faces if they are attached to open, honorable and much trusted and admired LGBT Gay Women and Men in Holy Orders and OUR loved ones, our friends and families...Dr. Williams believes that ¨facelessness¨ is a good thing (deception is often far more convenient than reality) and LIVING TRUTH ought be insulted, punished and ignored. Pity.


Archbishop Rowan further goes on to point out in his pandering video address to the Global South version of the Anglican Communion that there is a ¨deep divide between the Episcopal Church and THE REST OF THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION.¨ Here is his reasoning:

¨In all your minds there will be questions around the election and consecration of Mary Glasspool in Los Angeles. All of us share the concern that in this decision and action the Episcopal Church has deepened the divide between itself and the rest of the Anglican family. And as I speak to you now, I am in discussion with a number of people around the world about what consequences might follow from that decision, and how we express the sense that most Anglicans will want to express, that this decision cannot speak for our common mind.¨

Oh my, the Archbishop of Canterbury has taken a leap into the damaged world of codependency and probably believes HE IS MOST OF THE WE´S--meaning he speaks for the majority of Anglicans (who would no doubt, in his mind, agree with him even though there is NO document that backs his ¨damning of others¨ attitude up). Now the Anglican Communion has a ¨common mind¨ and +ROWAN KNOWS OUR COMMON MIND and speaks for US carelessly and without restraint! Such confusion and spiritual weakness is hard to believe coming from a person who´s title is ¨first amongst equals¨ and not ¨infallible dictator¨ nor ¨untouchable high priest-pope.¨

Rowan, you are a servant of a loving and inclusive God who Commands us to love God and one another too. No exceptions. Sorry, +Rowan, no exceptions, none.

Dear Dr. Williams,

WE DON´T HAVE A ¨COMMON MIND¨ at The Anglican Communion. Even in regard to YOUR much ¨touted/pushed¨ Anglican Covenant we have no majority of thinking/beliving. The Anglican Covenant, a covenant that would no doubt strengthen your ability to speak for OUR ¨common mind,¨ may not be agreed upon by even your Church of England, The Episcopal Church of Scotland, The Church in Wales nor Ireland! In fact, there is much evidence and resistance to the Covenant, enough to believe that it will not gain support by a majority of The Provinces at The Anglican Communion. What WORLD are you living in Dr. Williams? It is YOU who is politicing, pandering to divisive/schismatic Provincial Primates and you who is ¨deepening the divide¨ between OUR brothers and sisters at The Anglican Communion...ALL OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS at The Anglican Communion. All means ALL (in a more healthy codependent sense) and that would include Bishop Robinson, Bishop-elect Glasspool, The Very Reverend Jeffery John and hundreds of thousands of LGBT people and Heterosexual Female clergy and laity--Anglicans with whom you could experience the willingness to allow the necessary healing amongst US through the ¨renewed GIFTS of the Holy Spirit.¨ There is no other way!

The Gifts of God are for ALL the people of God--please don´t exclude anyone at OUR Communion rail and please do not make a shameful and cowardly ¨peace¨ with those who would destroy LGBT Christians at the Anglican Communion and abuse and outcast US in everyday life.

Why I should be delighted when the thing seems to be falling apart, in part due to your efforts and in part due to mine, I haven't the foggiest. Reverend Sharon Ferguson, Chief Executive of LGCM said she was “dismayed and shocked at this silence from the Archbishops regarding this flagrant vilification of LGBT people in Uganda.”

¨While some Anglican primates, such as Archbishop Peter Akinola, have refused to condemn physical assaults on gay people, most of those who oppose homosexual practice insist that they do not believe in persecuting gay people. The extent to which they speak out on the Ugandan situation is likely to be seen by many as a measure of their sincerity.¨ HERE

The Most Reverend John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, “will not be making a statement on this issue”.

¨The Archbishop of York, who grew up in rural Uganda, has said that he intends to stay silent about proposed legislation in the country which would introduce the death penalty for certain consensual homosexual acts.¨

¨Pastor Kayanja is very, very strong. His is 'Rubaga Miracle Cathedral'... and it is a mega church. He has recently opened a TV station in Uganda. Christian. And his ministry spans the earth. Yes, it does. He has good connections with the First Family, and has given of his accumulating wealth, judiciously. I mean, he has been giving to the police. Gifts of appreciation.¨ HERE

¨Kampala — THE first half of this year left its mark in the history of Uganda's Born-again church. Renowned pastor, Robert Kayanja, was accused of sodomy.

A group of five pastors and their colleagues pinned the Rubaga Miracle Centre cleric but Kayanja denied the allegations, calling them mudslinging.

The accusers were pastors Michael Kyazze, Martin Ssempa, Solomon Male, Kayiira and Semujju.¨ HERE

¨End result, the police exhonerated Pastor Kayanja, who continues his ministry. The other pastors are in court, for defamation, and other things.... Yeah, they actually are alleged to have given money to some young men to accuse Kayanja of having been gay.¨

The same Kayanja who is brother to Archbishop of York Sentamu.

UPDATE: Anglican Communion’s Tangled Connections To Uganda’s Anti-Gay Pogrom

¨There has been considerable consternation over the worldwide Anglican Communion’s silence on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill that is now before Uganda’s Parliament. That bill would reaffirm a penalty of life imprisonment for anyone convicted of being gay and impose the death penalty under certain circumstances.

It would also criminalize all advocacy on behalf of LGBT citizens, and impose criminal penalties on family, friends, teachers, counselors and ministers who fail to report LGBT persons to the police.¨

¨The new bill would outlaw Integrity Uganda and would put clergy, physicians and relatives who support their gay and lesbian neighbors and family members at risk for severe fines and possible imprisonment. We have not seen such a draconian system of isolation and institutional rejection of a minority community in Uganda since the anti Jewish laws passed by the Third Reich.¨ HERE

For years the Archbishop of Canterbury has been ignoring some of the more despicable anti-human discriminating acts launched upon confused and innocent Churchgoers by Gafconish Bishops and their slippery accomplices at various Provinces of The Anglican Communion. Deceitfilled, and SECRET, actions which have resulted in the tormenting, outcasting, jailing, brutalizing, demonizing, marginalizing and the general persecution and slandering of LGBT Anglicans, our families, our friends and unsuspecting others. In addition, ++Rowan, with his apparent lack of emphasis and/or outright denial of things truly dishonest and vile , presents a dithering and shameful leadership example...lackluster support for INCLUDING ALL ANGLICANS AT ALL LEVELS OF CHURCHLIFE (you know, ¨callings¨) when attending important ¨Instruments of Unity¨ meetings throughout The Anglican Communion.

Archbishop Rowan and other timid/cowardly and dodgy footdragging clerics have delivered, unto us, irresponsible moral leadership, slothful discerning, inappropriate ¨suggesting¨ while simultaneously being in DENIAL regarding the many negative and even sometimes deadly behavior(s)within The Anglican Communion...behavior that directly harms others at Church. Behavior that directly harms The Anglican Communion and OUR relationships with OUR brothers and sisters in the WORLD beyond Lambeth Palace forgetting.

Don´t look away.

The depth of ++Rowans denial and inadequacy, yet save ONE effort to castigate, as ¨First Amongst Equals¨, is his mission/intent to PUNISH THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH and TEC OPENLY GAY BISHOP, V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, U.S.A.

Most likely ++Williams will underscore his snide and resentfilled ¨case¨ against prematurely (before his retirement) ¨out¨ Gay Bishops at the upcoming General Convention of The Episcopal Church at Anaheim, California. Perhaps he will once again make his case for the ¨fasting and crucified place participation¨ of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Episcopalians with ++KJS and deliver another stern WARNING of foreboding for LGBT participation at all levels of Churchlife (The ABC still doesn´t want to upset the slandering despotic bishops who demonize and harm other Anglicans at The Anglican Communion) to the gathered Deputies and Bishops.

Such is some of the important measure of Archbishop Rowans wasted talent and fine intellect as our lost passion for basic and decent spiritual leadership/friendship and fellowship during the ++Rowan ministry term at The Body of Christ...as Anglican Communion inter-relationships fade into the Sunset of Anglican Communion History, we can always hope and pray for a more responsible, accountable, approriate and ¨engaged¨ response from ++Rowan before the finale.
